about

Bouncing in the bass line, somewhere between jazz, pop and beat poetry, "Bless Copernicus" feels like sunset palm trees, a "rose tinted rose window" view into an ordinary morning before work. Airy guitars and spacey keys blend with Elrick's deep tonic vocals. Horns round out this track in a euphoric cascade of soaring melodies.

lyrics

BLESS COPERNICUS
it’s late enough
winter light enters
the window
right about now
I move appointments
by fingertip
liberate the morning
and spin
with earth
through the calendar
wrap around our hot mother
(bless Copernicus)
forget-me-nots bloom
in wild grasses
when their time is ripe
I try to remember
to set a reminder
once they rise
for next year
things are falling apart
it is important now
to plant milkweed
feed winter chickadees
tickle tomato blooms
(R.I.P. the bees)
or at least quell anxiety
with some act of devotion
sun hits my face
eyelashes prism
a bower of rainbow
around the room
warm skin secretes oil
I close my eyes
and the world is red
as Coho spawning
eyelids, filter of blood-
rich capillaries
rose tinted rose window
it isn’t long
before dim again
on an ordinary day
I leave for work
